Access keys
In most modern web browsers, access keys provide keyboard shortcuts to commonly used navigation options. Access keys may be of particular use to those users who have difficulty in using a mouse or other pointing device, and can be of benefit to all users as navigation shortcuts. The Queensland Department of Education, Training and Employment is currently in the process of adding access key support to its web sites.
For sites that currently have access key support, the keys used are:
- 1 navigates to Home
- 2 navigates to Accessibility
- 3 navigates to Site map
- 4 navigates to Contact us
- 5 not in use
- 6 not in use
- 7 not in use
- 8 not in use
- 9 not in use
- 0 not in use
How to use access keys
For Internet Explorer
- Windows: Hold down the Alt key and the relevant number key, release, then press the Enter key
- Mac: Hold down the Ctrl key and press the relevant number key
For Firefox and Mozilla-based browsers
- Windows: Hold down the Alt key and press the relevant number key
- Mac: Hold down the Ctrl key and press the relevant number key
For Opera
- Windows/Mac: Hold down the Shift and Esc keys, release, then press the relevant number key
